REGISTRATION

Your first lesson with us is very relaxed and we often let a parent sit in to watch if the child wishes. You will be given a registration form to take home and bring back with you the following lesson, along with the initial registration fee of £10.
School fee’s are paid on a monthly basis (September to June) and due before the 1st of each calendar month.

DEVELOPMENT OF CLASSES

Lessons are provided for both male and female pupils from pre-school age. Pupil’s aged between 2 ½ – 4 years old begin in ‘pre-preps group’. In this group they will dance for 1 hour a week. As your child progresses through the grades the lesson duration, and frequency increases to 1 ½ hours twice a week.

Students that have reached the required grade to start teaching become student teachers and are encouraged to assist during younger classes.

EXAMINATION SESSIONS

The school is registered with the Associated Board of Dance, examinations sessions take place each year. Pupils are entered for examinations if they have attained the required standard. These sessions are conducted by ABD examiners and certificates are awarded for successful candidates. The syllabus is recognized by the Stage Dance Council and UCAS points can be gained for higher grades. The school currently boasts a 100% pass rate.

SHOWS

The school presents a show in the Congress Theatre (over a week) and a gala show in The Riverfront Theatre approximately every 18 months.

FESTIVALS

During the year, pupils may take part in dance competitions, where they can perform solos, duets, trios and troupe numbers. Private lessons are available throughout the year to concentrate on solo work. Individual dances are choreographed to suit each pupil’s individual skills and ability.

UNIFORM

There is a school uniform that is usually worn in class, though is not compulsory. We ask however that simple dancewear is adhered to in class with no jewelry and hair secured off face.
A Charlotte May Academy t-shirt or hoodie must be worn at competitions, workshops or outside events.
All uniform is sold at the school and can be ordered during class times.
